The East German Shepherd dog is a canid breed native to former Democratic Germany (EAST Germany) on the border with former Czechoslovakia. It is suitable for living in apartments or suburbs of cities, preferably with enough space for them to move around. Its ears are of moderate size, hard and straight, with wide roots and above the dog's skull. Starting at the nape of the neck, through a well-developed shoulder that forms a straight line, the basic gait is a brisk walk or trot with the front right foot and back left foot raised interactively.
